Onboard the Golden Eagle

    |     Aug. 11, 2017

Waking in Juneau you immediately feel in awe of the majestic mountains surrounding you – this is Alaska! After a morning of browsing this quaint town, I headed down to the dock to find the Golden Eagle.

Well, seeing this beautiful 100 ft vessel across from the large cruise ships filled me with total excitement. I knew then that this would be an experience like none other.

On boarding, champagne and snacks were served. The owners and crewmembers were all ready to get me settled into my stateroom and familiarize me with the yacht. Three couple joined making our group only 7 guests for the 6-night cruise combined with five crewmembers, including a 5-Star Chef from New Orleans, this was like having my own yacht.

Our Captain and guide were extremely knowledgeable about the area and were totally flexible to our requests. On our route from Juneau to Petersburg we were able to ask the Captain to take us to any area that caught our eye, stay longer in a place and choose our activities for the day.

We kept busy by kayaking with fabulous views of a glacier, paddling by brown bear, viewing an abundance of whales very close on our skiff, exploring beaches and taking a dip in hot springs. Lots of excitement was had with laying crab pots and enjoying a feast the next day!

Some great fishing was done right off the back of the yacht as well giving us a delicious evening of trying 3-4 different fish, among them was the delicious halibut. Each meal was gourmet and Us ladies onboard enjoyed a cooking lesson with the chef and he was very happy to share his recipes.

Some afternoons were lazy just reading a book and sipping wine.  Evenings were social and enjoyed time spent in the kitchen chatting to our chef whilst he prepared our meals. The experience aboard was totally tailored to our wants and needs.  Our flexible itinerary allowed us to explore as we pleased and being on a small boat allowed us access to places the big boats could not.

In summary it was a great experience had by all on board and the newfound relationships will be with me forever. This was an unforgettable trip that would be wonderful for a small group of family and friends looking to explore Alaska. Trek has contracted a number of dates for 2018 and will be adding a new fishing boat to the program as an added activity. This will allow for more days fishing and other boat related activities. Call me for more details.
