Fundo el Salto

Located just 35 miles from the scenic village of Puerto Varas in the heart of Chile's Lake District, Fundo el Salto awaits eager flyfishermen to test their skills some of the best Brown and Rainbow trout in the world. The Lake District is a maze of tributaries, spring creeks and mid-size rivers giving the angler a wide range of different water using different techniques. Within the varied landscape anglers use primarily nymphs and streamers while keeping another rod ready for the mid-day hatch as the temperature rises. Although landing Bows or Browns in the 4-8lb range can be demanding, our Outfitter Cristian Dufflocq and his guides are passionate about landing big fish and will lend the tips and secrets for success on the river.

As many trout anglers know Chile is a world class destination for Brown and Rainbow trout but it always seems that there has been difficult travel logistics involved in getting there. Fundo el Salto is only an hour and 20 minutes from Puerto Montt which is an easy non stop connection from Santiago which will allow you to fish on the day of arrival. From the lodge your access points will vary depending on the type of water being fished. Days will be spent on rivers that originate from snowcapped volcanoes which include successions of pool and runs that can be fished from a perfectly placed drift boat or stretches that are wadeable. During your trip you will have the chance to fish the Petrohue River and its tributaries, which gives you an ever changing landscape to land your fly with the possibility of running into Salmon along the way.

Fundo el Salto will accommodate 10 anglers in five country farmhouse style bedrooms which all include a private bath. The lodge common areas are highlighted by a well appointed living room which is connected to a fly tying room, separate dining room and an inviting kitchen. Unlike many other fishing destinations this lodge keeps even the most seasoned traveler as busy or relaxed as they want to be, without ever wetting a line. Any of the Cristian's bilingual guides specialized in not only fly-fishing and casting instruction but they can also accompany you for any hiking, eco-tours or a horseback ride in the Andes. Fundo el Salto is a truly owner-operated fishing lodge that has the flexibility for four, five and six day programs along with a location that is almost unheard of in world class trout fishing and vacation destination.

There are two travel options that make this Brown Trout heaven unique. You can fly into Puerto Montt from Santiago or elect to arrive Fundo el Salto from an exciting Lake Crossing from Argentina. This allows you to combine our excellent fishing programs in Argentina as well as Fundo el Salto. The Lake Crossing takes you from Bariloche, Argentina across three beautiful bodies of water while giving you incredible views of the Osorno and Calbuco Volcano as you snake through the Andes Mountains before arriving into Puerto Varas which lies only 35 miles from the lodge.
