Los Ebanos

Trek is proud to announce the addition of Los Ebanos Lodge to our hunting programs. This Eastern Mexico duck hunt has Trek’s full attention as we expect great things from this new destination just south of Brownsville, TX.

The Trip:  Laguna Madre located on Mexico’s eastern coast has long held a reputation for a being one of the largest wintering areas for North American waterfowl. Its diverse habitat of numerous fresh water lagoons, waterholes and large salt flats, attracts and sustains large populations of ducks looking to escape the cold weather and frozen waters of the north. Several years ago a group of local investors and institutions formed a non profit organization to manage and preserve the fauna and flora. This also involved the purchase of several thousand acres of habitat where new fresh water lagoons were built, along with a new facility near Laguna Madre. This very successful process created a haven for ducks and other aquatic bird species as well as a comfortable lodge for visiting VIP’s. Our trip starts from Brownsville, TX where you will be driven just over an hour to the lodge and hunt four full days and then home. Our dates are mostly a Wednesday to a Sunday.

The Accommodations:  Los Ebanos was built with hunters and entertaining clients in mind and we consider it a perfect destination for the discriminating duck hunter. The lodge has four double rooms and will accommodate eight hunters a week in a very comfortable setting offering an incredible view of Laguna Madre and beyond. Each room has two queen beds and in suite baths.  As you enter the lodge the first thing you notice is the beautiful wall mounts and the feel of a hunting lodge. Los Ebanos features a well stocked, self serving bar, large gathering area and a lounge complete with satellite television and WiFi accessible for those of you who need to stay “connected”. The lounge area also has a pool table and dart board for those who like to compete. The cuisine at Los Ebanos is top notch with local and international dishes specially and plentifully prepared.

The Hunting:  As mentioned above the key to supporting wildlife in Mexico is fresh water, they planned it well as they have over 1000 acres of fresh water ponds and lagoons so we have plenty of places to hunt. We will be running only one group a week and hunt four full days per group for ducks only. The general plan will be to duck hunt on the fresh water ponds in the mornings and then the Laguna in the afternoons but this will all depend on the weather and other conditions while you are at the lodge. As you will be hunting ducks in the morning and afternoons, you will get eight half day sessions of ducks that should be enough for any avid waterfowler. Teal, pintails and redheads are our target species among others. Now with that said, if a group decides they want to shoot quail or doves we will be glad to make the arrangements and swap out a half day of ducks for something else.
