The beautiful Central American country of Costa Rica is home to many popular Trek fishing expeditions. This area is well suited for both the serious angler as well as the traveling family just looking for an adventurous Costa Rica vacation. Trek anglers have enjoyed over a half dozen excellent fishing programs in this paradise.
In Southern Costa Rica, on the famed Osa Peninsula, we offer 2 great lodges from which to choose; Zancudo Lodge, and the newly constructed, ultra deluxe Crocodile Bay Lodge. These lodges are situated in some of the most fertile fishing grounds anywhere in the world. Here you will not only have shots at Pacific sailfish and giant blue marlin, but you will likely round out your trip with a good mix of rooster fish, yellow fin tuna, dorado, wahoo and even bottom dwellers like grouper and the toothy cuberra snapper. The fishing here is done primarily from center consoles in the 24-27 foot range, but upgrades to larger boats are always an option. All of these lodges are inclusive of your meals and full bar.
On the central Pacific coast lays the small port town of Quepos. This area offers anglers and vacationers a more upscale environment mixed in with fantastic saltwater action. This is the perfect warm weather get away to get rid of those winter doldrums. Deluxe oceanfront accommodations and fantastic sailfish action from December through May, make Quepos the place to be. Your English-speaking captains will work mostly from boats in the 30-32-foot range, but upgraded boats are available. Although sailfish are the name of the game here, you will also likely get into tuna, dorado and even some roosterfish. For the non-angler, this area offers a full slate of exciting activities. Whether it’s white water rafting, hiking in the rainforest, or experiencing the heart pounding action of a canopy tour, this area has it all. Staying in this same region, we also offer the Los Suenos Resort for those interested in adding a round or two of golf into their fishing vacation.
Tamarindo Beach and Flamingo Beach are in the northern Pacific region of Costa Rica. The relaxed, laid back feeling here, along with great fishing has made this region a Trek favorite for nearly 30 years. The fishing here is primarily for the pacific blue Marlin as well as monster Black Marlin and the always exciting sailfish. The boats here are in the 31foot to 40-foot range with American and Costa Rican captains at the helm. The American captains are long time residents of the area and have many seasons under their belts. The local captains have fished these waters thier entire lives and also do a great job. All of these guys are the "top guns" in Costa Rica and will definitely be able to put you in the fish. Whether it is blue or black marlin during the winter, or huge pods of sails in the spring and summer, you are sure to enjoy this popular destination.
For great tarpon action, we are proud to offer the Silver King and Rio Parismina Lodges. Situated along the tropical, jungle like Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, these are the places you need to be to experience the tackle busting action of the majestic, acrobatic tarpon. In addition to tarpon, these areas are teeming with many other offshore species like kingfish, tunas, jack crevalles and the speedy wahoo. If light tackle, backwater fishing is more to your liking, you can mix in a day of action on fresh water species like machacha, guapote and moharra. Peak seasons are the spring and fall, a great time to combine this area with a trip to the Pacific coast for shots at sails and marlin.
