This thrilling cast-and-blast adventure combines Bolivia’s renowned high-volume dove shooting with incredibly diverse jungle fishing for peacock bass and many other species. Trek’s first-class partner lodges for this adventure, Las Palomas while hunting and Caño Negro while fishing, both provide world-class, guest-focused service and outstanding local cuisine.
Those who have experienced Bolivian wingshooting before know this is a truly special place, where waves of doves roll overhead with such relentless intensity, sometimes you have to stop shooting and take in the awe of the spectacle. Caño Negro is an authentic jungle camp teeming with wildlife, where you never know what’s going to strike next. You’ll be chasing peacocks, as well as the toothy payara, pacu, oscars, piranhas and several varieties of Amazon catfish!
The Trip
This Bolivia dove hunting and Peacock Bass fishing trip is a nine-day, eight-night adventure with three days of fishing and three days of dove shooting. Each trip begins with an overnight flight from Miami to Santa Cruz. When you arrive the next morning, you will be met by one of our agents to assist the group through customs and gun clearance before heading to the domestic charter airport for private charter flight about two and a half hours to Cano Negro Lodge for an afternoon beginning to your fishing adventure.
The following two days are full fishing days. On day five, after fishing in the morning, you will charter back down to the hunting lodge, have lunch and head out for the rest of the afternoon’s dove hunting. The next two days will be full hunting days. You will shoot the last morning before having lunch and returning to Santa Cruz for the evening.
On the final day, you will have a morning hunt before an afternoon return to Santa Cruz to spend your final evening. Early the final morning you will depart Santa Cruz and be back in Miami in late afternoon. Reserve your spot now as groups of 8 or more get exclusive use of the lodge!
The Experience
The shooting in Bolivia is extraordinary, as the sky is literally darkened by doves pouring out of their roosts in the mornings and back in the afternoons. You’ll have experienced and attentive bird boys to build effective blinds in the middle of the action, as well as to keep your guns loaded for relentless shooting.
The fishing is excellent for peacock bass from 3-10 pounds, Payara, and numerous other Amazonian species. Whatever your choice, bait casting, spinning or on the fly, your experienced guide will have you in the right spot. If the conditions are right, you should easily catch from 60 to well over 100 fish per day per person.
The Accommodations
Las Palomas is a first-class lodge with single occupancy, air conditioning and swimming pool. With 12 single rooms, Las Palomas offers the ultimate in privacy and comfort while still maintaining the lodge “feel” that the Molina Family has always been known for. By the end of your visit, you will feel like part of the family.
Caño Negro Lodge is owned and operated by Trek’s Bolivian partner Roberto Aponte, who has a tremendous attention to detail in maintaining a high standard of operations at the lodge. In terms of quality, Caño Negro is one of the premier lodges in the South American Amazon, offering many of the creature comforts of home while maintaining a genuine jungle experience. The lodge will only take eight anglers at a time so space will be very limited as the season is from August through October.
