Venezuela

When you think about a truly diverse fishing paradise, Venezuela is at the top of the list. For the fresh water angler, the Peacock Bay Lodge on Lake Guri fits the bill. The peacocks in Guri will normally run in the 5-9 pound range, but do not be surprised to find your self on one end of a 16 pounder ! Also in this interior region of the country you will have a chance to experience the excitement of fishing the Uraima Falls for Payara. This toothy throwback to prehistoric times roams the fast moving waters of the falls in search of it’s prey. Once hooked, the Payara exhibits the strength and acrobatic ability of a tarpon. Truly a unique experience. For the perfect trip, combine a few days on Guri for peacocks and a couple more days at Uraima Falls for payara.

If blue water fishing what you are looking for, the incredible billfish action off the famous La Guaira Banks is for you. Whether you fish the spring months for big blue marlin, or head down in the fall when these waters are packed with blue marlin, striped marlin, Atlantic sails and even swordfish, you are assured of a trip sure to please.

For the salt water, light tackle enthusiasts, Los Roques is for you. Los Roques is a series of atolls 80 miles off the coast of Venezuela. The nearly 400 wade-able flats here are home to thousands of schooling bonefish. These feisty bones will normally be in the 3-8 pound range with some singles running even larger. In addition to the bones found here you may also hook into tarpon, some up to nearly one hundred pounds. The relaxed, laid back Caribbean atmosphere of Los Roques combined with non-stop action on bones makes for the perfect fishing getaway.
